On the third day of Catherineâs self-exile, it was Edgar who brought up a tray of food. He pleaded to be allowed entry. To his great joy, she acquiesced. Before eating, she told him that she was with child.
Chapter Sixteen
Upon hearing the news of his wifeâs pregnancy, Edgarâs face beamed like a bright star on a dark night. When she finished her meal, he requested that she return to their chambers and lie down on the bed. He lay next to her, wonderfully at peace now that an heir was in the making.
He kissed her tenderly and Catherine welcomed his touch and returned it with her own affection. He held her close. She rested her head upon his stomach, still a bit weak from her lack of food and the emotional strain since Heathcliffâs return.
Edgar stroked her hair with the caress she remembered the night of the oil massage, when they had fully consummated their marriage.
âI miss your touch,â said Catherine.
âSelfish soul that I am, it is I who have neglected you, rushing to take my pleasure. But you seemed in accordance.â
âI am in accordance with what pleases you, and you seemed happy.â
In truth she missed his tender love, the way he stroked her body, caressed her breasts as if they were treasures beyond compare. True, Heathcliff aroused her passion in a way that Edgar could not, but Heathcliffâs recent denial of any tender touches and feelings also left her empty.
Edgar stroked her hair and she murmured her approval. It felt wonderful to have her full attention again. The relaxed ease in which she allowed him to hold her, made Heathcliff seem a more distant memory. He vowed not even to mention his name. He began to massage the scalp, mixing in some light pulls of her long, elegant, dark strands.
She cuddled even deeper into her husband. Here she felt safe. Was that not the most important thing?
She undid his pants.
âNay, wife, you must rest. I am perfectly content.â
She continued to unbutton him and, with his help, slid his pants down to his knees.
She stroked his penis with her thumb and index finger, encouraging it to grow. With Heathcliff, nothing less than a fist would suffice to cause movement to his monster, and even a fist shrunk from his thickness.
âWill you always love me, Edgar?â she asked.
âForever and ever.â
âWill you love our child?â
âMore than life itself.â
Responding to her touch and soothing tone, she felt him grow in her hand.
âYou need this as well, donât you, Edgar?â
âYes.â
âNot just my love, but my sex?â
âYes.â
âYou dream of me?â
âAlways.â
As if rewarding him, she undid her blouse and camisole, exposing herself to him fully. He groaned with near-delirious pleasure. She loved his reaction to her breasts. Heathcliff, once an ardent admirer, had neglected them since his return.
Edgar became fully erect.
âDo you want my mouth on it?â she asked, something she had only done once before with Edgar, but he came too quickly, and she did not particularly care for the taste of him or his semen.
